I live on Maui, and love my island! This blog will show the fun things that my friends and I do each day. Almost all of the photos and videos are original and built by me recently. Aloha!

We enjoyed our first dining experience at the Waterfront Restaurant last night (finally!)  We’re not sure why it took so long, but we’re happy it finally happened.

First off, the service was really great.  Our waiter has been on island for 30 years and was very friendly.  We ordered the Caesar salad and he made it fresh at our table (dressing and all.)  It was almost as good as our homemade Caesar, but we’re self-professed Caesar snobs.

We had a few glasses of wine.  Their wine list is extensive!  The only thing we didn’t really like were the small glasses.  They’re like long stemmed port glasses.  The portion size was correct, but the glasses very small.  I asked why this was, and the owner said that they’ve had many complaints with the larger glasses due to incorrectly perceived portion size.  They do have normal large glasses if you request them.  I like a monster goblet that allows a lot of room for breathing.  This is good to know for those of us that appreciate a large glass.  Oh, and the wine was very good.

Then we took our waiters suggestions and ordered the Onaga and Tenderloin (forgive the crappy photos.)  I’m a sucker for Onaga and it was very good.  They serve their fish in a myriad of ways.  I chose the recommended En Bastille (which means it’s imprisoned in finely cut strips of potato and sauteed.  The dish was excellent, though the potato was slightly overcooked.  The fish was perfect.  My only suggestion would be to cook the dish on lower heat for a longer time so there’s no burning.

The other dish was the tornadoes of Filet.  Dear God! This was amazing.  We’re not certain how they grill it, but the meat had a unique smoky flavor to it.  Their steaks come in many different ways too, but we chose the Green Peppercorn Demi-glace.  All of the Waterfront sauces are made fresh in house.  It was fantastic.  The steak came with a potato gratin that was superb.  My poor wife had to sacrifice a decent portion of her meal to me.  I’m now addicted to their steak.

The view was incredible.  it would be a perfect spot to pearch for a meal when a large south swell is coming in.  The sunset lit up the South of Maui and made for excellent dinner viewing.

Waterfront Restaurant Tip #1: We asked for any specials and they said they’re doing an anniversary deal because they’ve been in business for 20 years.  if you mention this to your server, you’ll get 2 for 1 on your entrees (should last for another month or so but not sure.)  The Waterfront is definitely not cheap, but it’s worth checking out.  Great food, excellent atmosphere, spot on service, and incredible view.  It’s location is perfect too if you’re making your way to and from Lahaina/Wailea area.

Waterfront Restaurant Tip #2: If you prefer a large glass for your wine, just ask your waiter.  They have them in stock for those that prefer them.  Just keep in mind that the portion size will appear smaller in them, but you get the same amount.
