Best day in Hawaii: Road to Hana
Holy sheeah, guys! This is where I’ll be starting tomorrow! See you all in a week! :)
Hana bound!
There’s a million things to do once you arrive on Maui, but there are only a handful that you MUST DO!!! Driving the Road to Hana is one of those things. You can do it in various ways: van tour, explore on your own, or explore guided by your own Hana CD. our favorite way to do it is to drive a jeep with the top down while listening to a guided CD.
Our favorite CD is Experiencing the Road to Hana and Beyond! Our reason for choosing this cd over others is that it offers the full Hana experience. With R2H, you’ll be guided to the best spots and will find the romance and adventure you’re looking for. You also get driving tips and a custom foldout map showing the best spots to stop along the way.

Here’s a quick clip of the ocean in Hana, Maui. The coastline along the Road to Hana is extremely rugged and raw. Parts of it remind me of the Big Island. Other parts of it remind me of Kauai because it’s so lush.

One of the most popular things to do in Maui is driving the Road to Hana. The Road to Hana is composed of the North and East route to the town of Hana in Maui, Hawaii. Hana is a very small town famous for keeping to its roots as a Hawaiian community. Despite growth and modernization around the rest of the island, this small town has changed very little in the last 100 years.
Is Hana the reason for making the trip? Hana is a beautiful place to visit, but the town is really not why most make the journey. The real pleasure comes from traveling along what is considered to be the most beautiful roads in the world. On The Road to Hana, you’ll travel for hours through dense rainforest, past dozens of gushing waterfalls, and along miles of rugged coastline. This is not a trip you should take in a rush.
Along the way, there are several pit stops available to you. Stopping for fresh banana bread is a must. Also, take the time to stop at lookout points and at the National and State Parks. We do suggest that you leave early in the morning. The trip often takes 3-4 hours each way, so be prepared for a long day of sightseeing. Also, keep an eye on the road. It’s tempting to get taken away by the scenery. Remember that you’ll be traveling on a small road around approximately 600 turns and over 54 old bridges. This is not a time to lose concentration. Take turns driving, this way everyone enjoys the journey.
This panoramic was taken on the way to Hana along the rugged coastline of Keanae. This was taken off of the peninsula. The weather was wild; it rained off and on and the ocean was super turbulent.
