I live on Maui, and love my island! This blog will show the fun things that my friends and I do each day. Almost all of the photos and videos are original and built by me recently. Aloha!

Photo of whales taken from a helicopter by Natalie Brown.
Listening to whales singing can be done in 2 ways:
1 - swim or snorkel from the shore until the waves breaking are not heard as well underwater. Swim closer to the bottom and stay still and quiet. Even if whales are miles away, you’ll likely hear them singing. (only do this with a partner and not too far away from shore. Currents can be dangerous.)
2 - take a boat for a Maui whale watching tour, and the crew will often drop a hydrophone into the water to amplify their live singing to passengers onboard.
Songs last 6-8 minutes and are only sang by the males. The song is a complex arrangement which every male within a population sings the same song. This song will change throughout the season, and it will eventually become a completely different song. As with many Humpback behaviors, the reason for the song is still a mystery.

I could get used to the insane beauty and sunshine here in Hawaii, not a bad way to live
If I had a dollar for how many times I’ve enjoyed moments like this, I’d have a bunch of money in a bag that I wouldn’t need in order to be in this spot. Priceless moments that cost nothing!

This is the spot that always freaks me out. You’re exhausted, adrenaline rushing, and you’re not sure how big the one is behind it. Scary, but exhilarating!
